The Commander recently made a trip out to Los Angeles to meet with some development companies on the creation of a Cobra Island theme park.  He claims he’s tired of flying out to Florida for Disneyland and says a theme park really “sells” a country as a legitimate. 

There was some time between meetings so he wanted to see the sights.  Unfortunately, we got a little sidetracked and briefly lost.  I didn’t mind very much because I actually haven’t seen much of Los Angeles, and the Commander enjoyed not being in meetings, so all is well that ends well.

Toy Fair 2013: G.I. Joe - Figures & Vehicles From G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Hasbro showed off figures from the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie which we have seen before the 3D delay. 

There will be a wave 3 and 4 of the series which includes Ultimate Flint and Roadblock. Also new will be Budo Samurai Warrior, Ultimate Storm Shadow based on the vintage, Ultimate Cobra Commander with hood and silver mask. Coming in May will be a Data Viper and Kwinn. Wave 4 will include figures that were hard to find the first time around from the Retaliation line.

Only new vehicles mentioned was the Night Landing Raft with Cobra Eel and new Tomahawk with Lifticket rebuilt. Extra row of seats and helicopter blades fold in with a new cockpit to fit modern figures. MSRP: $40

Joe A Day: Cobra Commander (2008 DVD Battles Pack)

Battle Helmet Cobra Commander. Bumper Face. Rust Breath.

While I find the original Cobra Commander figure to be the iconic portrayal of the character, I’ve always wanted to have him more closely resemble his cartoon version. Though the RAH line only gave us one battle helmeted Commander, the lines that followed made up for the lack. The new sculpt series gave it a few shots, and were fairly successful, if different interpretations of the look. The 25th anniversary series seemed to heap them on one after another.

They finally got it right with the DVD battle pack, interestingly included piloting a Cobra CLAW. The first thing I did when I opened the pack was to remove the glider and its attached straps, revealing one of the greatest modern versions of Cobra’s supreme sibilant serpent.

While most of the body remains the same from previous versions, the head is where the figure shines. A chromed faceplate is something I had hoped to see since I was a kid, or at least since I had first seen vac-metal on an action figure (C-3PO and R2-D2 had it, why not Joes?) The helmet also has the center stripe, which I have always liked for some reason.
